Patient Support Team is an emerging non-profit organization that’s working diligently to drastically improve the quality of healthcare services provided in university and public hospitals in Egypt.
PST was founded on the 16th of October, 2013 as a simple voluntary venture by a small group of medical students at Kasr Al-Ainy, who were just trying to make a difference. Five years later, and we have grown into more than three hundred volunteers from different universities and fields of study, divided into 9 committees that work together to provide a comprehensive system of financial, emotional, educational, and logistical support for all patients at both branches of Abo El-Reesh Children Hospital—with future plans of expanding and implementing that support system to other university and public hospitals across Egypt.
Our goal is to provide a comprehensive support system that vastly supplements the medical services provided at university and public hospitals. Multiple different committees work together to provide that system, which is mainly based on the voluntary efforts of university students. In doing so we utilize a massive resource that’s been largely unused for ages, as well as build a system and foundation that are grounded and sustainable, and can be easily built upon and scaled for years to come.
“The department of Pediatric Clinical Nutrition had the pleasure to collaborate with the Patient Support Team for Aboulrish hospital for the academic year 2017-2018. I’m proud to have worked with them and look forward to further collaboration.”
“Some people ask me why I am very excited and supportive to PST? PSTians have added a lot to my hospital. They guide patients in the OPC. They measure their weight and height. They collect funds to help fulfilling the needs of every unit in the hospital. They teach chronic patients who cannot follow their classes during their hospital stay. They are the epitome of dedication and selfless giving.”
